favorite photo site without photos

My new-found favorite photography site unphotographable doesn't have photos and that's why I like it so much.

from the artist, Michael David Murphy: "Unphotographable is a catalog of exceptional mistakes. Photos never taken that weren't meant to be forgotten. Opportunities missed. Simple failures. Occasions when I wished I'd taken the picture, or not forgotten the camera, or had been brave enough to click the shutter....If we take photographs to remember then what do we do when we're not taking photos? "

I can't remember where I found this site. I think it was through a wish studio artist interview. I just can't find the artist. so whoever you are, thank you.

I have so many unphotographables in my memory bank. I wish I could be invisible sometimes. so I could snap away without people seeing me. Fear is so often an obstacle. fear: bahamian fruit-seller with wool Yankee cap; I bought her fruit for five weeks trying to get the courage to take her picture. It never came. Fruit was good.

forgotten camera: friends' first appearance in a play. she was awesome. Her  mom had recently died and my friend was channeling her mom's artistic spirit. Her sisters were there. they cried. It was a joy to watch and remember.

your turn. unphotographables...

Bones of A Poet and Happy Accidents

I am delighted to be taking an online photo class with Madelyn Mulvaney, a writer and photographer from Vancouver. It' s called "Photography and the Wonder of Seeing". We will be 'experimenting with engaging techniques that break photographic rules and put us in the path of happy accidents.' Our first assignment involved taking pictures with our eyes closed. I loved the assignment and the resulting magic. I couldn't have done as well with my eyes open!!! Madelyn's website is called persistingstars.

Hope and Poems

I wonder how some people put themselves into the world so easily. I met a boy selling his music on a street corner. Sorta a NYC sort of thing, not the stuff of in front of the P&C Fresh Market grocery store in Fayetteville, NY. He was probably around 17 or so. Brown hair. Brown eyes. Brown canvas jacket. No hesitation. No guile. "Would you like to support my music?” he asked. He looked me in the eye and smiled. “You’ll like the song called Hope.” How can you resist Hope? I gave him $5. He said thank you and walked away. I do like Hope. Listen for yourself. I don't know his name... http://www.myspace.com/sevenseasentertainment

So I got to thinking if he can do it, why not me? It’s time to sell my poems on the street corner. Or at least to follow in the footsteps of my blogger friend,Pippi (thanks for the encouragement, Pip).

But first some inspiration from former poet laureate Dana Gioia

Unsaid
So much of what we live goes on inside—
The diaries of grief, the tongue-tied aches
Of unacknowledged love are no less real
For having passed unsaid. What we conceal
Is always more than what we dare confide.
Think of the letters we write our dead. – dana gioia

The Baptismal Dream

Too tired to sleep, she sweeps
day into tiny circles
of radiance and dust.
Microscopic reflections
Of earthly grace.

She aches to step inside
The brilliance of eternity
And forget herself within
the ashes of the day.

Gifts revealed, she scoops
moondust
into her warm, tired hands.
She honors the mystery
And swallows.

As the spirit begins to flow,
Tiny church bells ring truth. Tears fall
And sight fails. Unborn angels dance.
Families sing. Spring unfurls green
Waves of hope, life everlasting.

Too tired to sleep, she dreams
night into shimmering pools of peace.
                                            --by me.

I gave this poem to my friend, several years ago, in celebration of the baptism of her son, Harry.

Eyes giving Way

Jane: my inspiration
So I finally caved in and got my first pair of glasses. The most difficult part was choosing the lens. My nieces helped: Michelle, as always, my number one style consultant. And Jane. My color choice wasn't as brave as Jane but she was my inspiration.  I also want a wolf hat...
Julia (my beautiful daughter) and Jane, wearing coveted hat  and wise eyes
